Clear aligners are a popular method to move teeth, mainly because they are esthetic and hence suits the lifestyle of adult patients and professionals. Regardless of the brand (e.g. Invisalign) clear aligners are a “tool” that requires precise supervision. Our team has superior expertise with clear aligner treatments and have been trained by the most famous leaders in this field. Unlike other offices, we treat >90% of our patients with clear aligners, and recognize that it is not the aligner “brand” which makes treatments efficient, but the knowledge and expertise of the provider in planning the treatment, that is important.
Braces, which are also known as brackets, are a traditional orthodontic treatment that involve attaching metal or ceramic brackets to the teeth and connected by a wire. The wire is tightened over time, which applies gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into the desired position. Braces are a fixed appliance, which means they cannot be removed by the patient. They provide the best control for tooth movement and are hence ideal for many patients’ malocclusions. For the adult population, we also use white, esthetic brackets, to reduces the “metallic” appearance of braces.
Interceptive orthodontics aims to correct or prevent malocclusions (abnormal bite) and other orthodontic problems in children early, by using simple appliances to redirect growth of jaws and position of teeth. It is usually done between 7 and 11 years of age, when the teeth are still developing and the bones are more responsive to treatment. It has the potential to improve the future outcome and dental health. We are strong proponents of early (Phase 1) therapies, only when necessary. There are many tools and brands available in the market and we make our choices based on available research, to build the most appropriate treatment plans for your children.
Dr. Lam and Dr. Vora are both Certified specialist in Orthodontics and ONLY provide Orthodontic treatments at Helios Orthodontics. They also work with other Specialists to prepare patients to receive dental Implants, prosthesis, bridges, veneers, and also work with Oral Surgeons and Periodontists to assist with bone ridge augmentations and Jaw Surgical corrections for patients with severe problems and severe sleep apnea. We can also provide patients with Retainers if required.
We operate with 3 principle stratagems (1) Conservation, (2) Comprehension (3) Evidence-based. We believe in being conservative and try to align teeth without having to alter their shape as little as possible. We try to avoid removal of teeth as much as possible, and recommend it, when appropriate. It is important for us to listen to you and communicate our finding and advices comprehensively. Case presentation
In many cases a simple solution following a 15-minute exam does not suffice. The doctors study the case in detail, along with input from other specialists if needed. In this second appointment we will provide detailed treatment alternatives along with outcome simulations where possible.
Consent and initiation.
Often combined with one of the earlier appointments, here we take the opportunity to present the risks and benefits or each treatment alternative, for a comprehensive understanding. There are no costs incurred until you are ready to start treatment
First procedure

Treatment progression
For the next several months, visits are used for adjustments of both types of appliances, addition or removal of treatment adjuncts, instructions on how to use rubber bands and review of questions. Clear aligner more flexibility compared to conventional braces, where regular visits are mandatory.
Reassessment
We will take records again to see how far we are from our initial treatment objectives, and formulate a re-adapted treatment plan to meet our goals, when needed. In clear aligner therapy, this is called a refinement, in conventional braces that is when we reposition the braces.
Completion
Once you and we are satisfied with the treatment outcomes, appliances and attachments are removed, but your journey with us continues. We consider Retention to be an active part of treatment and in few cases provide additional retention appointments and devices if needed. Even after your treatment has been finished for several years, we are happy to see you again !
